As parents, we watch our children grow through all the different seasons of their lives, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them in their careers, their marriages, and in those most priceless moments when they become parents themselves.
What we scarcely anticipate, what we never imagine, is that our children will die before we do.
On October 10, 2017, our 23 yr. old son, Chase, died unexpectedly in a tragic accident, and all our dreams for his life, all the good things we imagined for him, also died in an instant. An understanding of how such tragedy fits into the scheme of life is difficult and often has been unattainable, but God tells us in Romans 8:28 that “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” We choose to trust God without understanding His “whys,” but we also want to take an active role in any goodness that results from the loss of our boy.
Chase brought so much joy into our lives and touched the hearts of every person he met with laughter and love. He was a young man who exemplified character, respect, compassion, and commitment, and he lived life to the fullest; his life was about making every moment count. We will continue our son’s legacy through Chase Right Choices and encourage a generation to rise up and make a difference. We could write a book based on all of his attributes, but Garret’s story sums up who he truly was.
